Former Bel Air resident and Christy Award winner Lisa Samson is out with her latest fiction book from Thomas Nelson Publishers. “The Passion of Mary-Margaret” is somewhat of a departure for Lisa as she writes for the first time from a Catholic perspective. On the whole we think this is one of Lisa’s best works to date and certainly is one that will get you thinking.
The main character, Mary-Margaret Fischer is destined for a life as a religious sister. However, she feels a pull towards Jude, the son of a Chesapeake Bay Lighthouse keeper. Eventually she has to come to grips with doing what is “right” and doing what Jesus is telling her to do. And no, those two things are not the same. And yes, Jesus is literally talking to her – a major plot device of the book.
Lisa told us that she wrote this book as a metaphor about the incarnation of Christ. Reading with her intention in mind reveals a lot about the love of Jesus in coming to live with humans and be fully present with us. However, the book also raises some interesting questions about mysticism and how we as Christians “hear” from God.
Lisa is considered a somewhat “edgy” writer in Christian Fiction and this book does have its moments of “edge”. However, Lisa is such a gifted and compassionate author that scenes that might feel awkward to some Christian readers are handled with deft.
We highly recommend “The Passion of Mary-Margaret” to fans of Lisa Samson and soon-to-be fans.
For several years now we have been selling the NIV Translation and The Message Translation/Paraphrase together in a parallel Bible. People have enjoyed having the NIV and The Message together on one page. Sometimes it helps to have two translations right in front of you when you are reading so that you can get a full picture of what the text is saying. The accuracy of the NIV and the contemporary language of The Message make a great combination.
Now Zondervan, the publisher of the the NIV, has put the two translations together in a Study Bible format. That means that not only do you get both translations together on one page. You now get study notes as well!
While the notes are not as extensive as some other study Bibles, the combination of the study notes with the different translations make a great Bible study tool.
Stop in and take a look at the different styles and sizes we have!
